WEB DEVELOPER, KIPLINGER.COM

The Kiplinger Washington Editors, one of America’s most respected business and personal-finance publishers, seeks a talented, highly motivated and team-oriented LAMP Developer to join Kiplinger.com’s web development staff. Primary duties include developing new and maintaining existing PHP-based applications for our custom content management system and Kiplinger.com.

Requirements:

  • Experience developing PHP-based applications
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL/MySQL
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript, DOM and AJAX, preferably with some understanding of object-oriented JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks (jQuery in particular)
  • Solid practical knowledge of (X)HTML and CSS
  • Ability to develop and own a project from conception to completion
  • Ability to consistently meet project deadlines
  • Bachelors degree in CS or equivalent experience
  • Experience with website responsive design, Bootstrap and Photoshop a plus
  • Familiarity with mobile application development, Alexa, Google AMP and Apple News helpful

Investing Writers

Kiplinger.com is seeking experienced freelance writers to help bolster our daily offering of market/financial coverage. We want reporters, analysts, and well-versed stock pickers with a deep understanding of equities, bonds, and other investments, strong writing skills, and the ability to meet daily deadlines. At Kiplinger, we start with the expectation that our readers will act on our advice, and benefit from doing so.

Essential Functions:

  • Conceptualize high-quality editorial ideas that deliver actionable advice. Topicality is essential, being on the news is a plus.
  • Work cohesively with our online senior investing editor and the Kip.com internal team to execute day-to-day and overall strategies.
  • Interview fund managers, analysts, and other financial pros for insights and opinions that will help readers make investing decisions.
  • Write crisp, clear articles, with an emphasis on slide shows and quizzes.
  • Produce online content within Kiplinger.com’s content management system.

Desired Skill Sets:

  • A deep understanding of the financial markets, specifically as it pertains to analyzing stocks, bonds, funds and other investments.
  • A high comfort level with content management systems.
  • Ability to think qualitatively and strategically.

DATA AND RESEARCH INTERN

The Kiplinger Washington Editors, one of America’s most respected business and personal-finance publishers, is in immediate need for a bright and motivated data and research intern on our Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine staff.

The intern will work with a team of editors on Kiplinger’s annual Best College Values rankings feature. Responsibilities include contacting colleges and universities to collect and verify numeric data, updating contact information for the schools, and working with editors on analyzing and evaluating such data supplied by the colleges and universities.

The successful applicant must have excellent analytical, quantitative and communication skills, as well as strong attention to detail. Solid computer and database skills, including a firm working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, is a must. The applicant must also be able to work well as part of a team under deadline pressure.
