From Cinco de Mayo to Mother's Day to Memorial Day, there are plenty of reasons why restaurants and stores are offering free food and drink deals this month.

Mark these dates on your calendar:

Free burger for active-duty military and veterans. In honor of Memorial Day, Shoney's is offering all active-duty military and veterans a free all-American burger on Monday, May 25. You have to register online to receive a coupon via e-mail. You must present the coupon, as well as proof of military service. This offer is valid for dine-in customers only.


Free lunch or dinner for active-duty military, National Guard or veterans. McCormick & Schmick's will be dishing out complimentary lunch or dinner entrees to all active-duty military, National Guard and veterans who dine-in at one of their participating locations on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25). A military I.D. is required.


Free meal for teachers. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 5, PDQ (People Dedicated to Quality) restaurants (located throughout the South and in Nevada) will give a free combo meal -- 3-piece chicken tenders, sandwich or salad -- to any teacher who presents a valid teacher ID during normal store hours.

Free pizza buffet. CiCi’s Pizza restaurants are honoring education professionals for National Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 5 with a free pizza buffet from 4 p.m. to close at participating locations. Offer is good for one adult buffet with a valid teacher ID.

Free chips and salsa. At On the Border restaurants, customers can score free chips and salsa along with drink specials at participating locations in celebration of Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday, May 5.

Free taco coupon. Buy anything (including just a drink) at California Tortilla on Cinco de Mayo (Tuesday, May 5), and receive a coupon for a free taco that’s valid from Wednesday, May 6 through Wednesday, May 13.

Free coffeeTuesday, May 5, Ikea customers who visit the Ikea restaurant can get a free cup of UTZ certified coffee during normal store hours.

Free meal for moms. Participating PDQ restaurants are celebrating mothers on Sunday, May 10 by offering a free combo meal (3-piece tenders, sandwich or salad) with the purchase of a kids combo meal for $4.19.

Free ice cream cone. Customers who visit any participating Haagen-Dazs ice cream shop on Tuesday, May 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. will receive one free kiddie size ice cream in either a cup, sugar cone or cake cone.
