Driving Schools for Teens

These courses teach young drivers how to stay safe on the road.

A number of one-day driving schools combine classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to teach teens the skills they need to deal with extreme conditions such as slippery roads, emergency braking and curves they approach too fast.

Street Survival
Supported by the BMW Car Club of America Foundation and Tire Rack, it will be offered in more than 40 locations in 2007.
Cost: $60.

Driver's Edge
Sponsored by Bridgestone, it's offered in a dozen cities.
Cost: Free.

BMW Teen School
One- and two-day courses are offered in Spartanburg, S.C., near the BMW assembly plant.
Cost: $400 (one day), $700 (two days).


Bob Bondurant Advanced Teenage Driving
The famous Phoenix racing school takes on teens.
Cost: $1,175 (one day), $2,195 (two days), $3,095 (three days).

Skip Barber New Driver Program
A handful of dates are offered at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, near Monterey, Cal., and at Sebring Raceway in Sebring, Fla.
Cost: $795.
